In the podcast "Health First", supported by United Hospital, radiology specialist, Shkëndije Nuza, spoke about the importance of radiological examinations in the detection and prevention of diseases, including cancer.

She explains that Radiology is one of the main pillars of modern diagnostics and functions as the doctor's "inner eye" to see what is happening in the body.

Nuza indicated that radiology includes a wide range of examinations, ranging from the oldest methods to the most advanced technologies.

"X-rays, which are mainly used to diagnose fractures, pulmonary problems and bone structures, work with ionizing radiation. Ultrasound (Echo / Ultrasonography), examinations of the abdomen, pelvis, breast, neck, thyroid, kidneys, vascular system, work with ultrasonic waves, without radiation. It is also used for ultrasound-guided biopsies, such as of the breast, thyroid, liver, pancreas, kidneys or lymph glands. It examines blood circulation in the neck, kidneys and extremities," she said.

He further added that radiology helps in diagnosing hypertension caused by vascular problems.

"CT-guided biopsies are also performed, but each procedure carries a minimal risk of complications."

One of the rare complications during lung biopsies is pneumothorax, but as Dr. Nuza says, "it is manageable and occurs in very isolated cases."

Nuza emphasizes that the myth that mammography causes cancer is unfounded.

"There is no official scientific publication proving that mammography causes breast cancer."
