The Municipality of Vushtrri has informed citizens that in recent days, several areas of the city have faced public lighting disconnections by KEDS, as a result of the inability to pay electricity bills.

According to the announcement, the situation has arisen as a result of the execution of municipal funds within the framework of the implementation of the Collective Agreement, which has significantly burdened the municipal budget.

During 2025 alone, the Municipality of Vushtrri was paid over 3.5 million euros, which represents more than 50 percent of the annual capital investment budget, reports Telegraph.

According to the mayor, Ferit Idrizi, this has made it impossible to make regular payments to KEDS for public lighting.

He announced that the municipality is taking all necessary steps to normalize the situation. In this context, an extraordinary session of the Municipal Assembly has been called, with the aim of approving the excess of own-source revenues and allocating a portion of them to the payment of electricity bills.

"We ask for the understanding of citizens and hope that the situation will return to normal very soon," Mayor Idrizi said in a statement.

The municipality has assured citizens that it is working to immediately resolve the problem and prevent further disconnections. /Telegrafi/
