The Duke of Sussex has told the BBC that he "would like a reconciliation" with the Royal Family, in an emotional interview where he expressed deep disappointment at losing the legal battle over his security in the United Kingdom.
Prince Harry stated that the King "doesn't speak to me because of this security issue," but stressed that he no longer wants to continue the conflict and added that "I don't know how much longer I'll have my father."
The interview took place in California, following a court ruling that rejected the prince's appeal to restore the previous levels of security he and his family had when they were in the United Kingdom.
Buckingham Palace responded by saying: “All of these issues have been repeatedly and thoroughly examined by the courts, which have reached the same conclusion in each case.”
Following Friday's decision, Prince Harry stated: "I cannot imagine a situation in which I would bring my wife and children to the UK at the moment."
He added: "There have been many disagreements between me and some family members, but I have forgiven them. I would very much like us to reconcile. There is no point in continuing to fight, life is precious."
The prince stressed that the security debate has always been a major sticking point. He had sought to overturn changes to security measures put in place in 2020, when he gave up royal duties and moved to the US.
Expressing a sense of betrayal, he described the defeat in court as a "classic establishment maneuver" and accused the royal household of influencing the decision to reduce his security.
Asked if he had asked the King to intervene in the matter, Prince Harry said: "I haven't asked him to intervene - I've asked him to step back and let the experts do their job."
He added that the way he had been treated during this process had "brought to light my greatest fears."
Regarding the decision, he said: "I'm devastated - not so much about the decision itself, but about the people behind it, who think this is acceptable. Is it a victory for them?"
He continued: “I’m sure there are people – perhaps those who wish me harm – who see this as a great victory.”
Prince Harry said the decision to remove his automatic security clearance affects him "every day", and that in the current circumstances he can only safely return to the UK if invited by the Royal Family - as he would then benefit from sufficient security measures. /Telegraph/
