Premier League reacts and explains why Lewis-Skelly was given a red card

The Premier League has issued a statement during the match between Arsenal and Wolves in the Premier League, after the 'Gunners' player, Myles Lewis-Skelly, was punished with a straight red card.

Arsenal were left with one less player on the pitch when Lewis-Skelly became the third youngest player in the history of the Championship to be sent off.

In what has caused a huge debate on social media, the 18-year-old defender was penalised after a tackle on Matt Doherty, which was deemed a dangerous action.

That tackle made by the young Englishman convinced the match referee Michael Oliver to punish him with a red card.

Shortly after that incident, the Premier League's reaction came, explaining the reason why the red card was given.

"The referee's decision to show Lewis-Skelly a red card was reviewed and confirmed by VAR, who deemed his tackle a dangerous foul," their statement read.

This is not the first time this season that Arsenal has been involved in controversy with the referees, as in the 2-2 draw against Aston Villa there were also questions about Kai Havertz's disallowed goal./Telegraph/
