Police seize over 32 kg of drugs hidden in vehicle with Serbian license plates north of Mitrovica

The Directorate for Investigation of Narcotics Trafficking (DHTN) of the Kosovo Police has carried out a successful anti-drug operation in the North Mitrovica region, preventing the transportation of a significant amount of narcotics.

According to the announcement, after receiving reliable information about a vehicle with Serbian license plates that was suspected of transporting drugs, DHTN-Mitrovicë North, in cooperation with the Border Police and the support of the Technical Crime Unit, undertook the operation codenamed "SHTEGU" at the Kosovo-Serbia Border Crossing Point in Jarinjë.

During the search of the suspect vehicles, a Mercedes A-Class with Serbian license plates was selected for a more detailed check. Due to the suspicions raised, the vehicle was sent to South Mitrovica for further examination.


During the inspection, a modified metal tank with dimensions of 160×97 cm and a depth of 25 cm was found in the lower part of the car, which contained narcotic substances.

"Inside it, police discovered 30 packages wrapped in transparent foil, containing a total of 32.4 kilograms of marijuana."

The KP emphasizes that the operation was conducted in full consultation with the Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica. As part of the legal procedures, the police confiscated two mobile phones and seized the vehicle for further investigation.

The suspect, with the initials NM from Belgrade, was arrested and, by decision of the Prosecutor, was sent to police custody for 48 hours, while investigations continue by the anti-drug unit in North Mitrovica.

The Kosovo Police says it remains committed to ensuring security and order, resolutely fighting every form of crime, including drug trafficking and illegal activities that endanger the health and safety of citizens.

Security institutions thank citizens for their cooperation and encourage any individual who has information about suspicious criminal activities to report it to the relevant authorities. /Telegraph/
