Police reveal how the serious accident in Ranillug, where two girls lost their lives, came about

Kosovo Police have provided details regarding the serious accident that occurred today at around 10:00 in which two girls lost their lives and another received bodily injuries on the Domoroc-Hodonoc road axis in the Municipality of Ranilug.

According to the Kosovo Police spokesman for the Gjilan region, Ismet Hashani, suspicion has been raised that this is not an accident per se, but a traffic accident.

He said that it is suspected that the truck driver, born in 1970, as a result of unsafe turning, obstructed the movement of the vehicle that was overtaking, where the driver of the vehicle, due to not adjusting the speed to the road conditions, lost control of the vehicle in an attempt to avoid hitting the truck and ended up rolling off the road.

Hashani also indicated that the suspect, by decision of the State Prosecutor, was detained for 48 hours while the bodies of the victims were sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy.

On 14.03.2025 at around 10:00, according to initial information, we received information about a traffic accident on the Domoroc - Hodonoc road axis in the municipality of Ranilug with fatal consequences.

As a result of the injuries, the driver of the Golf VII vehicle with local license plates, born in 2002, a Kosovo citizen, died, while two passengers suffered bodily injuries and were transferred to the Emergency Department of the Regional Hospital in Gjilan. Despite the assistance provided by the medical staff, one of the passengers also died in the emergency department, whose death was confirmed by the attending physician, while the third passenger was taken to the University Clinical Center in Pristina for further treatment.

 As a result of investigative actions by the Regional Road Traffic Unit, inspection of the scene, examination of cameras and collection of other evidence, by decision of the State Prosecutor, suspicion has been raised that we are not dealing with an accident itself but with a traffic accident where it is suspected that the driver of the truck with local license plates, a Kosovar male born in 1970, as a result of unsafe turning, has obstructed the movement of the vehicle which was overtaking, where the driver of the vehicle, due to not adjusting the speed to the road conditions, lost control of the vehicle in an attempt to avoid hitting the truck and ended up rolling off the road.

 The suspect, by decision of the State Prosecutor, has been detained for 48 hours while the bodies of the victims have been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy.

 The circumstances of this traffic accident are continuing to be investigated by police accident investigators in coordination with the State Prosecutor's Office.
