Police arrest teenager – more details emerge about shooting that left three dead in Sweden

Swedish police have arrested a teenager after a fatal shooting in the city of Uppsala.

The perpetrator reportedly fled on a scooter after the attack at a downtown hair salon, sparking a manhunt.

Police confirmed on Wednesday that the person arrested for the shooting is under the age of 18, foreign media reported, according to Telegraph.

The three victims were aged between 15 and 20, Swedish police said at a press conference, although regional police chief Erik Åkerlund said their identities had not been "100%" confirmed.

Police are investigating the possibility that the deaths are linked to gang crime, Swedish media reported.

One of those killed at the hair salon is said to be known to police, local media said.

Sweden has seen a wave of teenage gang crimes in recent years, with suspects charged with a range of crimes from vandalism to murder.

The Swedish government has proposed new legislation that would allow police to wiretap children under the age of 15 in an attempt to tackle the problem.

The government has also said it wants to tighten gun laws in the country.

The attack occurred on the eve of the Walpurgis spring festival, when large crowds are expected to take to the streets of Uppsala, a university town north of Stockholm. /Telegraph
