Poland aims to build the most powerful army in Europe

Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk has declared 2026 a "year of Polish acceleration", promising to build "the most powerful army in Europe", increase investment in infrastructure and take a tougher stance on crime.
At a New Year's meeting, Tusk said his government would accelerate military expansion, launch major infrastructure projects and continue what he called "re-Polishization" and reconstruction of key industries, including the defense sector.
"We will accelerate the building of the most powerful army in Europe. We will accelerate major investments in infrastructure. This will be a year of rapid strategic development in the Baltic Sea," Tusk said.
He also announced plans to impose a strict "Poland first" rule in public procurement.
Tusk promised tougher measures against crime, stressing that authorities would "tighten measures against criminals of all kinds," including drug dealers, corrupt politicians and those he described as pro-Russian militants.
"Anyone, without exception, who breaks the law will regret it very much next year," he said, adding that Poland would become "an oasis of security."
Reflecting on 2025, Tusk described the past year as a turning point for the country, despite global instability. /Telegraph/
