After 26 years, the Peja region has marked a year without any murders for the first time.

The news was announced at a press conference by the Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution Office in Peja, Lumturije Vuçetaj, who presented the results of the work for 2025.

She emphasized that the Peja region has been among the most sensitive in terms of serious criminal offenses, especially murders, but that this historic result has been achieved through close institutional coordination.

"Today I have the honor and pleasure to present the fact that after 26 years of war, the year 2025 is recorded as the only year without any murders in the Peja region. This success is the result of close cooperation with the Kosovo Police, other institutions and citizens," she said.

Vuçetaj described the year 2025 as one of the most challenging, but also among the most successful for the institution she leads, emphasizing that the safety of citizens has been a top priority.

According to her, in 25 years, 203 murders have been recorded in the Peja region, with a total of 227 victims.

"I have prioritized the security of citizens, their property, and the fight against criminal offenses. We are aware that fighting these offenses requires active police, rapid investigations, and fair and impartial trials," said Vuçetaj.

According to the Chief Prosecutor, this result ranks Peja as the most peaceful region in the country.

"The year 2025 is zero murders and zero victims. From a region with the most sensitive and complex cases, we have achieved that Peja is considered the calmest region and the only prosecution in the prosecutorial system without a single murder case," concluded Vuçetaj.

At this conference, Vuçetaj indicated that this prosecution also aimed to combat corruption.

She said that the Peja Prosecution Office has filed indictments against dozens of public officials and police officers have been arrested.

In 2025, according to Chief Prosecutor Vuçetaj, there are 1766 convictions resulting from well-founded indictments filed by this prosecution. /Telegrafi/
