Kosovo Customs has seized goods worth over 33 thousand euros at the Vërmica Border Crossing Point and detained a person suspected of smuggling, it was announced in an official announcement.

According to Customs, on February 12, 2026, at approximately 12:15, customs officers of the Anti-Smuggling Unit identified a vehicle that did not obey the stop order and left the checkpoint. After the operational response, the vehicle was stopped on the highway and, under official escort, returned to the Vermicë/Vermicë checkpoint for a detailed check.


During the inspection, it was determined that the vehicle was transporting postal shipments destined for buyers in Kosovo and North Macedonia. After counting and verification, 233 packages and 1,376 units of various goods were found in the vehicle, with a total value of 33,810.98 euros, while the evasion of customs duties was estimated at 10,075.67 euros.

The seized goods included textile items, shoes, cosmetics, accessories, food products and other consumer goods.

Kosovo Customs investigative units arrived at the scene and, by order of the competent prosecutor, a criminal case was initiated. All goods were seized according to legal procedures, while the vehicle was temporarily confiscated and sent to the official Customs premises.

By order of the acting prosecutor, the suspect has been taken into custody for 48 hours, while investigations into the case continue.

Kosovo Customs has emphasized that it remains committed to combating smuggling and evasion of customs duties, with the aim of protecting economic order and market security. /Telegrafi/
