President Vjosa Osmani has called the invitation of US President Donald Trump to join the Gaza Peace Board a development of historic importance for Kosovo, KosovaPress reports.
Osmani said that Kosovo has received the invitation as a founding member and that it will offer its experience in state-building.
She said that Kosovo's inclusion in this US-led multilateral organization strengthens Kosovo internationally.
"This is a development of historical importance for the Republic of Kosovo. First of all, this is an international organization, it is Kosovo's membership in an international organization and as one of the founding members of this organization. Second, this organization is founded by the United States of America, our strategic ally, and thirdly, because the United States has selected Kosovo among several founding states, taking into account Kosovo's experience in state-building. In peace-building, in alliance-building, this experience that could help in building peace in other countries of the world... With great pride, I have accepted this personal invitation from President Trump. I thank him for his appreciation, trust and willingness, as he emphasizes in the letter, to work for a long time to realize the mission of peace and security in the world. We as Kosovo, even though we are a small country, can have a great contribution to the realization of these goals. I am working closely with the White House so that our contribution is concrete and significant," she said.
The country's leader said that the invitation she received and the accompanying documentation do not mention the issue of any payment, but rather leaves it up to member states to do so voluntarily.
"Even in the accompanying documentation, there is no mention of any payment issue, but it is left to the states to do this voluntarily. However, on all issues we are in coordination with the US. Kosovo's contribution will be significant because of our experience in building peace. Kosovo is one of the greatest American successes. One of the greatest successes of the Euro-Atlantic alliance in building peace. We have something to offer in terms of experience, perspective and vision for such an initiative. It is important that Kosovo will be equal and has been invited by the founder and leader of this organization, the United States of America. It is an achievement of our international empowerment and the alliance with the US", she added.
Osmani made these comments after the memorial academy marking the 20th anniversary of the death of the historic president, Ibrahim Rugova.
The Peace Board is an international mechanism, envisaged in a UN Security Council resolution in November 2025, that aims to oversee the interim administration of Gaza and the reconstruction of civilian institutions.
