The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, is on an official visit to the Holy See, where she was received in a meeting by Pope Leo XIV at the Apostolic Palace.

During the visit, President Osmani also held meetings with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, as well as with Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States.

After the meetings, Osmani stated that this day constitutes an important moment in the relations between the Republic of Kosovo and the Vatican. She emphasized that during the meeting with the Pope, she conveyed the hope and faith of the people of Kosovo that the Holy See will make the long-awaited decision to recognize the independence of Kosovo.

"I expressed the hope and faith of the entire people of Kosovo that the Vatican will finally make the decision to recognize the Republic of Kosovo, recognizing the long suffering of our people to live freely, independently and in democracy," Osmani declared.

According to her, such a decision would contribute not only to the well-being and success of Kosovo, but also to peace and stability in the region and on the European continent.

She also emphasized Kosovo's historical contribution, mentioning important figures such as Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg and Saint Teresa, as well as the role of Dardania in the history of Christianity and European humanism.

President Osmani announced that during the visit she conveyed the greetings of the people of Kosovo for Christmas and the New Year, and invited Pope Leo XIV to visit the Republic of Kosovo.

"I invited His Holiness to visit Kosovo, with the hope that such a visit will be realized as soon as possible," Osmani said from the main square of the Vatican. /Telegraph/
