Norway and Sweden have refused to join US President Donald Trump's Peace Committee, while according to media reports, Italy will not participate either, news agencies report.

The Norwegian Prime Minister's Office announced today that Norway will not join the Peace Committee proposed by the American president.

"The American proposal raises several issues that require further dialogue with the United States. Norway will therefore not join the proposed provisions for the Peace Committee and will not participate in the signing ceremony in Davos," State Secretary Kristoffer Thoner told AFP.

Sweden has also rejected Trump's initiative.

"Sweden will not participate in President Donald Trump's Peace Committee initiative in the form in which the text has been presented so far," the prime minister said. Ulf Kristersson journalists in Davos.

Italy will not participate either, the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reported.

According to the newspaper's article today, Italy will not participate in Trump's initiative for fear that membership in such a group led by the sole leader of a country would violate the Italian constitution.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who otherwise has good relations with Trump, is unlikely to go to Davos, a source told the BBC. ReutersThe Italian government did not respond to a request for comment.

The proposed committee would be headed by Trump for life, and would begin with resolving the conflict in the Gaza Strip, followed by other wars. Members would have to pay a billion US dollars for permanent membership.

According to the Italian constitution, Italy can join international organizations that ensure "peace and justice among nations" only "on an equal basis with other states," which is inconsistent with American primacy on the new committee, the newspaper explains, without citing the source of the report.

Invitations to join the initiative have been sent to around 60 countries, including Kosovo and Albania. /Telegraph/
