Rokas: North Macedonia should accelerate reforms, the Criminal Code should also be amended in the Parliament

European Union Ambassador Michalis Rokas, in a joint press conference with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, called for the acceleration of reforms.
He said that Macedonia lacks progress in the judiciary and the fight against corruption, mentioning in this area the need to amend the Criminal Code.
"Now is the time to seize the opportunity, accelerate reforms and implement them more decisively. Compared to the reports of recent years, some progress has been achieved, but the need for greater commitment from the political spectrum is nevertheless confirmed. There is no progress regarding reforms in the Judiciary and the fight against corruption. This remains of fundamental importance to be done. These are not just determinations, but the foundation for the trust of citizens and for the European future of the state. For the third year in a row, we have not made significant progress in this area. However, it is precisely here that a new commitment can make a serious difference. Regarding the fight against corruption, I would like to emphasize that it is necessary to amend the Criminal Code in the Assembly in accordance with the recommendations", said Mikalis Rokas.
He added that constitutional changes are key on the path towards the EU.
