North Macedonia in 67th place out of 142 countries according to the Rule of Law Index for 2023

The sixty-seventh place out of a total of 142 countries is occupied by North Macedonia according to the Rule of Law Index in 2023 of the World Justice Project (WJP) The Rule of Law Index in 2023 of the World Justice Project (WJP).

The three countries with the lowest scores in the group with North Macedonia are Belarus, Russia and Turkey (117th place globally). Serbia is in 93rd place, while Albania is in 91st place.

Regionally, North Macedonia is in 5th place out of 15 countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.


The rule of law factor that declines the most between 2016 and 2023 is fundamental rights.

The limits of government powers are shrinking in 56% of countries, compared to 58% in 2022 and 70% in 2021.

Globally, the best-ranked country in the 2023 Rule of Law Index is Denmark, followed by Norway, Finland, Sweden and Germany. The country with the lowest score is Venezuela, followed by Cambodia, Afghanistan, Haiti and the Democratic Republic of Congo./Telegraph/
