Netflix reveals its most expensive film ever made, calling it a monumental disaster and just plain stupid

Netflix's new big-budget film "The Electric State" starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt is one of the most expensive films ever made, and although it immediately topped the box office charts, critics have called it a "monumental disaster."

Critics did not have a very positive reaction to the film "The Electric State," with the magazine Slate which describes it as a "monumental catastrophe".

The Sunday Times describes the film as "a vague pain in the eyes" and "the ultimate boredom." "It's polished, but extremely heartless," he declared. Hollywood Reporter, while New York Times called it "obvious, strange and just plain stupid."

Paste highlighted its budget, calling it “the most banal way you could spend $320 million (€292 million).” He went on to describe the film as “an artistically sterilized, sanitized devil (a waste of money and time).

In contrast, Empire said it was "easy to watch" and worth three stars, while The Telegraph gave four stars to the "Spielbergian treatment".

In general, his result R of 15 percent is very poor, especially considering the budget. Netflix has not confirmed the exact amount invested in the production, however, the often-cited figure of $320 million (€292 million) makes it the most expensive streaming film ever.

Bad reviews didn't stop "The Electric State" from going straight to number one on Netflix's global most-watched movie chart after its release on Friday.

“The Electric State” is a retro-futuristic film set in the 90s. It stars Millie Bobby Brown as Michelle, an orphaned teenager who embarks on a journey in search of her long-lost brother, Christopher, after a robot uprising. She is joined on her journey by a smuggler named Keats (Chris Pratt) and his sidekick, a robot named Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie).

It also stars Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci and the voices of Woody Harrelson and Brian Cox, and was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo – who have made four Marvel films, including “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Endgame”.

The film is based on a graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag, although some critics have pointed out that Netflix has missed the book's point regarding the dangers of a consumerist society dependent on technology. /Telegraph/
