Netanyahu demands the closure of the "Al-Jazeera" news network

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has demanded the closure of the office of the Qatari news network Al-Jazeera, accusing it of inciting violence at a holy site in Jerusalem.

"Al-Jazeera" news network continues to incite violence on the Temple Mount. We have appealed several times to the law enforcement authorities asking them to shut down Al-Jazeera," Prime Minister Netanyahu said yesterday on his "Facebook" profile.

"If this does not happen due to legal interpretation, I will try to pass the necessary laws to remove Al-Jazeera from Israel," he added.

Al-Jazeera's office has yet to comment on the matter.

Al-Jazeera, an Israeli news network, extensively covered recent tensions in Jerusalem regarding Israeli security measures at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, known as the Temple Mount.

Israel today lifted all security measures recently imposed at a holy site in Jerusalem, which sparked huge Palestinian protests.

The Al-Jazeera network has been banned in several countries, including Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Syria.
