A serious tragedy has shocked Italy and the Albanian community, following the loss of life of four members of the Kola family in their apartment in Porcari, near Lucca.

The family is suspected of being poisoned by carbon monoxide, an invisible and deadly gas.

According to Italian media, the alarm was raised by the 22-year-old boy, who called the 112 emergency center, saying the dramatic words:

"My sister is sick, we don't know what's wrong with her."

During the call, the young man managed to give the address, but due to his serious condition, he mixed up the apartment number. Before he lost his breath, he gave an address but gave the wrong house number (he said 168 instead of 186), which caused the ambulance to go around to find the house. As a result, the ambulance was initially directed to the wrong address and medical assistance arrived about two hours late. When emergency teams finally reached the correct apartment, all four family members were without signs of life.

The victims are:

• Arti Kola, 48 years old

• Jonida Kola, 43 years old

• Hajdar Kola, 22 years old

• Jessica Kola, 15 years old

Preliminary investigations indicate that the cause of the incident was a carbon monoxide leak, while some of the emergency personnel who entered the apartment after the incident also showed signs of poisoning and were treated by doctors.

The incident has sparked a debate in Italy about the management of emergency calls and the great danger posed by heating devices without safety standards. Authorities are continuing their investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of this tragedy that took the lives of an entire family. /Euronews.al/
