Despite numerous protests, the Parliament of Montenegro approves the draft law on the ratification of the agreement with the United Arab Emirates

The Parliament of Montenegro approved the draft law on the ratification of the agreement between the Government of Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on cooperation in tourism and real estate development.

Forty-six MPs voted for this agreement, ten were against, while four abstained. The session on the two agreements with the United Arab Emirates lasted more than 46 hours, reports the Telegraph.

MPs from minority parties, except for the Bosniak Party, as well as the URA Civic Movement and Social Democratic MP Boris Mugosha voted against this agreement.

The People's Democratic Party committee abstained, while the rest of the opposition, including the Democratic Party of Socialists, did not participate.

The deputies did not accept the amendment of independent MP Jevrosima Pejović, who requested that the projects that would be implemented through this agreement not be treated as public interest.

The emergence of the Arab company "Eagle Hills", which claims to turn the southernmost Montenegrin city into, as they say, the new Dubai, has caused a stir in Montenegro - and has prompted numerous reactions and opposition.

And the last one came from the Ulcinj NGO Network, which believes that the Government of Montenegro should take into account the recommendations of the professional community and colleagues from the civil sector and accept the conclusions of the Ulcinj Municipal Assembly regarding the possible announcement of a lease for the "Big Beach" for 99 years.

In a statement, Ulcinj NGOs assess that even the potential investor is aware that without the support of the local community, such a grandiose project cannot be successful.

Days ago, the mayor of Ulcinj, Genci Nimanbegu, made a public call for citizens to gather in front of the Parliament of Montenegro to oppose plans to give away or sell the Grand Beach.

"Dear citizens of Ulcinj and Montenegro, the battle for the Big Beach continues," read the video posted by Nimanbegu on his Facebook profile. /Telegrafi/
