Mitsubishi has officially confirmed that it will launch a new true off-road SUV in 2026, raising expectations for the return of the legendary Pajero name.

The announcement was made by the company's president, Takao Kato, during the Tokyo Auto Salon, while recently released images reinforce speculation about a modern Pajero.

The new SUV is expected to be built on the Mitsubishi Triton pickup platform and use the 2.4-liter twin-turbo diesel engine with 201 horsepower.

An electrified version, based on the Outlander's PHEV technology, is also not ruled out.

The price in Japan is expected to range from 5.5 to 7.5 million yen (32,000 – 44,000 euros), while in Western markets it is expected to be significantly higher. /Telegraph/
