Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has reacted to the debate created after Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama's statement regarding the origin of Greeks.

In an interview for a Greek television station on Saturday morning, Mitsotakis was also asked about the jokes exchanged by Rama in Abu Dhabi with the American-Greek journalist John Defterios, euronews.al reports.

"I have known him for many years and he is a politician with a particular way of expressing himself, he often says things he shouldn't say. This time he made a mistake, which he nevertheless understood and corrected," Mitsotakis said.

Prime Minister Edi Rama caused numerous reactions after his statements at the conference two days ago in Abu Dhabi where he exchanged jokes with the American-Greek moderator, John Defterios, and implied that Greeks are not descendants of Aristotle and Plato.

Many Greek media outlets reported on Rama's statement.

Among the media outlets writing about the prime minister's statement is "Skai.gr", which called Rama provocative.

"Rama Provocative: The Greeks Are Not Direct Heirs of Plato and Aristotle," is the title of the article written by Skai.
