Mickoski: We are ready for the adoption of constitutional amendments

We are ready for the approval of constitutional amendments, but the message is clear, the approval of constitutional amendments should not only serve to open the process. We need to know when this process will end. With this, we are trying to ensure the process from the beginning to the end of the negotiations, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said in an interview for "Faktor".

"We insist on this, because in the event of a repeated blockade in the future, hope among citizens will be largely lost and it will be difficult to convince citizens that one day we will end up in the European Union. We firmly believe that these three phases, carried out with consistency and determination, will ultimately result in progress", says Mickoski in the interview.

He assessed that recent meetings with high international representatives have strengthened the importance of dialogue, but, he emphasized, diplomacy in this case is not about surrendering to pressure, but about the active engagement of our international partners to ensure that the country's perspective to be understood.

"We emphasized our willingness to work constructively, as long as the process respects our national sovereignty and identity. While Bulgaria maintains the veto mechanism, our efforts are focused on demonstrating that European integration is a strategic necessity for the stability and prosperity of the region. We use the support of allies who accept that bilateral issues should not undermine the wider goals of the EU", emphasizes Mickoski.

Solving internal issues, he added, recognizes the importance of strengthening national unity and internal stability.

"We are currently working on the Roadmap for the Rule of Law and Administration Reform, which are the basis for the opening of the Foundations cluster. I expect that these two guidelines will be completed in the following months and with this our country will be formally and legally ready for the opening of this cluster. Support from EU member states and institutions is essential and we continue to push for a fair and merit-based approach to membership," Mickoski said in the interview.
