The Special Court of Appeal has rejected former President Ilir Meta's request for the relaxation of the security measure.

The appeal has left the prison sentence in effect, euronews.al reports.


"The Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime, with a monocratic panel composed of Judge Saida Dollani, today on 14.11.2025, announced the decision on criminal case no. 256 act, date 04.11.2025 registration, on the appeal of the defendant IM, with the subject 'Appeal against decision No. 672, date 22.10.2025 of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, with the subject: Termination of the personal security measure of 'prison arrest' for the defendant IM" and decided:

"Approval of decision no. 672, dated 22.10.2025 of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime," the Appeals Court decision states.

Ilir Meta was arrested on October 21, 2024. He is accused of the criminal offenses of "passive corruption", "money laundering" and "concealment of assets".

SPAK closed the investigations on July 28, and sent the file for trial at the end of August.
