Is Messi returning to Barcelona this year? A special clause allows him to do so

Lionel Messi could make a sensational return to Barcelona in 2025, as Inter Miami's contract plans potentially include activating a transfer clause.

The Argentine star is entering the final year of his current contract in Florida. The terms, however, include the option to extend it for another 12 months.

The Herons are expected to extend their partnership with the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner so that he can continue playing at Chase Stadium.

Messi has the next World Cup as his goal, where he will aim to defend the crown with Argentina in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

If he agrees to stay in Miami, it would mean he would spend two seasons in MLS.

According to this, Messi would be allowed to make a transfer elsewhere on loan during the time when the championship is on break.

According to a report from El Nacional, this could pave the way for Messi to make a big return to Barcelona.

It has been suggested that in order for him to stay in top physical shape for the World Cup, Messi could return to Barcelona once the MLS season comes to an end.

Legendary players like Thierry Henry and Robbie Keane had secured loan moves to the Premier League to teams like Arsenal and Aston Villa while playing in MLS./Telegraph/
