Lionel Messi is being linked with a surprise move to Galatasaray, according to reports from Turkey.

The Argentine star, a multiple Ballon d'Or winner, is currently enjoying a break after the MLS season, where he led Inter Miami to their first MLS Cup victory in 2025.

Faced with the possibility of transferring to the Turkish giant, Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek has expressed optimism. In an interview with beIN Sports two months ago, he said that Galatasaray has the opportunity to transfer Messi.

"You can't live without dreaming. Will we see Messi wear the Galatasaray jersey one day? Our financial situation allows us to ask about Messi without a problem. We have increased our level of success and consolidated our financial stability," Ozbek declared.

According to Turkish journalist Levent Tuzemen, Galatasaray have already opened talks with Messi and his representatives about a potential transfer before the winter transfer window closes, a four-month loan until the MLS season begins.

However, Messi has reportedly set a special condition: If he signs with the club, he only wants to play in Galatasaray's home games, avoiding trips to away matches in the Turkish Super League.

Galatasaray currently have six home league matches remaining, one home match in the Turkish Cup group stage and one home match in the UEFA Champions League against Juventus.

It is still unclear whether Messi will be available to play away from home against the Italian side in the Champions League if the transfer goes through.

The transfer window in Turkey remains open until February 6, meaning Galatasaray still have the opportunity to finalize the deal.

Currently, the defending champions lead the table with 49 points, three more than rivals Fenerbahçe, and are looking to win the 26th league title in the club's history. /Telegraph/
