Even Messi mocks Raphinha after the Argentine's humiliation of Brazil

Lionel Messi has hit back at Raphinha after watching Argentina beat Brazil 4-1 on Tuesday night in World Cup qualifiers.

The rivalry between Argentina and Brazil is one of the fiercest in international football and Raphinha fanned the flames before the match kicked off, while sending a strong message to his team's South American opponents.

Speaking to Selecao legend Romario, Raphinha told him: "We will beat them, without a doubt. On and off the pitch, if necessary."

Romario then escalated the war of words, asking Raphinha: "F*** them?"

"I will **** them", Raphinha agreed.

However, Tuesday's match went disastrously for Brazil as they were soundly beaten, much to the delight of Messi, who was watching from home after withdrawing from the Argentina squad with a minor muscle injury.

Congratulating Argentina on their two wins in the international break that sealed their place in next year's World Cup, Messi wrote on Instagram Story: "Inside, outside, I will follow this team everywhere. We always talk about our football. Congratulations on the great game last night and also for the victory against Uruguay."

Messi's reference to Argentina talking on the pitch appears to be a clear jab at Raphinha after an embarrassing evening for Brazil. /Telegraph/
