Merz says Iran's territorial integrity must be preserved

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has made a strong call for preserving Iran's statehood and creating conditions for this country to stabilize politically and economically.
He has stressed that he does not want to see a situation similar to that of Syria, where instability has led to long-running conflicts and massive waves of refugees.
"We do not want to see a scenario like Syria, but we want this state to become functional from within," the German leader said.
According to him, this requires a rapid and coordinated commitment at the international level.
He added that in all his meetings, both in Washington and with the Israeli government, he has called for the creation of conditions for Iran to have a democratically legitimate government and to be able to continue to exist as a state.
Merz also emphasized the strategic importance of Iran's stability for Europe, "this is a country with over 90 million inhabitants. We have a high interest in avoiding new refugee flows from the region," while underlining that Iran's stability is not only a regional issue, but also an international one.
Political analysts believe that the German Chancellor's stance reflects a cautious approach by Germany, which seeks to avoid direct conflicts but also to influence internal stability that can support Iran's economic and democratic development. /Telegraph/
