Man Utd lose on penalties to Fulham and are eliminated from the FA Cup

Manchester United were defeated 4-3 by Fulham on penalties in the fifth round of the FA Cup, thus being eliminated from the competition.

The first to take the lead were the guests who scored 1-0 through Calvin Bassey in the 45th minute. 

The home team's reaction came in the second half, managing to equalize the score at 1-1 through Bruno Fernandes who scored in the 71st minute. 

Until the referee's final whistle, there was no change in the score and the match had to go into overtime.

The Red Devils' Chidozie Obi had a golden opportunity in the first half of extra time to put his team ahead, but Bernd Leno denied him the goal. 

The guests also had an opportunity in the 110th minute through Ryan Sessegnon, but Onana was up to the task, preventing him from finding the net. 

Thus, even the extra time did not produce a winner and thus penalties had to be executed to determine the team that would secure further qualification. 

The visitors proved to be more accurate in the penalty shootout, winning 5-3, after the home team's Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee failed to score. 

United will now return to the Europa League where they will face Real Sociedad in the round of 1 on Thursday.Telegraph/
