Macron calls for resumption of dialogue with Serbia, there is specificity in Kosovo

The French president hoped that Kosovo and Serbia would return to dialogue in the coming weeks. But according to political experts, this is currently difficult, especially given the current political situation in the country.

French President Emmanuel Macron also joined the series of calls for Kosovo and Serbia to return to the dialogue table.

"I hope that in the coming weeks we can resume dialogue with Pristina and Belgrade, because each country has faced political and social problems, in order to make progress."

But Macron's optimism, at the joint conference with the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, is, at least in Kosovo, met with skepticism.

While the incumbent government has not even commented on such a possibility, experts in local politics see such an opportunity as unlikely.
Afrim Kasolli says that Kosovo and Serbia do not have the political momentum to return to dialogue.

But, he says that there is also uncertainty in the European Union, as the EU High Representative, Kaja Kallas, has made several different statements.

"He stated that it is more than evident that the dialogue has not gone as it should and that it is time to review and reassess where mistakes have been made in the process so far, and now it remains unclear whether this is the beginning of the implementation of the obligations that both parties have, or the beginning of a process aimed at correcting mistakes," stated Afrim Kasolli, political analyst.

According to Kasolli, it would be most beneficial for Kosovo to begin correcting some mistakes in the dialogue.

Political analyst Mimoza Gavrani does not see meetings between Kosovo and Serbia in the near future either.

"I think it's a message that, to consolidate, they need much more time. In this case, the country needs to consolidate even with the political stabilization situation that we currently have and to take into account the options that the president has on the table and are being discussed," stated Mimoza Gavrani, political analyst.

Gavrani says that Kosovo's return to dialogue may also have conditions, such as the removal of punitive measures from the EU, but that would not be favorable for the country.

"We are not in a political position to condition, especially considering the wild geopolitical developments, the positioning of Russia, the impact of President Trump's policy, the positioning of other allies who are continuously working to achieve their long-term political goals. In this case, I am talking about the Republic of Serbia in cooperation with Russia," Gavrani emphasized.

In addition to French President Macron's statement on the dialogue, Tirana also confirmed the visit to Kosovo and Serbia by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas next week.Dukagjin/
