Macron: Zelensky accepted an unconditional ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has agreed to an unconditional ceasefire with Russia, a significant development that could pave the way towards an end to the long-running conflict between the two countries.

The news was announced by French President Emmanuel Macron, who announced the agreement after a meeting with Zelensky.

The two leaders had a one-on-one conversation as part of the funeral ceremonies held in honor of Pope Francis, which were attended by many important personalities from around the world.

"Ukraine is ready for an unconditional ceasefire. President Zelensky reaffirmed this to me today. He wants to work closely with American and European partners to make this a reality. It now falls to President Putin to show with deeds that he is committed to peace," Macron wrote on the social network X.

Following his statement, the French president added that diplomatic efforts will be intensified within the framework of the Coalition of the Willing, an initiative launched in Paris last March, which aims not only for an immediate ceasefire, but also for the building of a complete and lasting peace for the future of Ukraine.

According to him, international cooperation will be essential to guarantee a lasting solution and to ensure that the sacrifices made so far by the Ukrainian people are rewarded with a more secure and peaceful future.

Otherwise, Zelensky also had a meeting with US President Donald Trump before the funeral of Pope Francis. /Telegraph/
