Macron: Putin is lying about wanting peace in Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed hope today that Russian President Vladimir Putin will finally stop lying about wanting peace while continuing to bomb Ukraine.

"In Ukraine we are only waiting for an answer to one question - does President Putin accept an unconditional ceasefire," Macron said during a visit to Madagascar.

The French leader stressed that Americans' discontent should be directed at only one person, and that is Putin, writes the world.

He added that the priority should be an unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine, assessing that the status of Crimea - which is at the center of the impasse in efforts for an agreement with Moscow - should not be a primary issue for the time being.

US President Donald Trump had previously declared that Crimea is now lost territory for Kiev, after the Black Sea peninsula was annexed by Russia.

"The issue of the status of the peninsula is not being raised in any way now, and it is not up to us to decide it," Macron said, adding that the ceasefire is the starting point for everything.

"All other issues are part of the peace negotiations that will have to be held later and which will take into account military positions, territorial and security issues," Macron concluded.

Otherwise, Trump has condemned the recent Russian attacks in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, where over ten people have died so far. /Telegraph/
