Macedonian reacts after publication of KFOR letter on sending army to the north: No reshuffle, but clarification

The Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, has reacted after the publication of the letter sent to the KFOR Commander regarding the event of November 24, 2024, where the KSF Ceremonial Guard was engaged in a funeral ceremony in the north of the country.

In his statement, the minister emphasized that the letter does not constitute anything new for the public and that its purpose was only to clarify the circumstances of the KSF's engagement in that area, ensuring that this action was not intended to escalate the situation.

"There is no reshuffle, but clarification," the minister declared, adding that the letter cannot be interpreted as a reshuffle, since there is a document in force regarding the engagement of the KSF in northern Kosovo, given as a commitment by former Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi in April 2013. This document defines the conditions of operation and coordination between the KSF and KFOR in that part of the country.

The Macedonian has reiterated that he personally disagrees with the 2013 pledge, describing it as wrong and harmful to the Kosovo army with long-term consequences.

However, he underlined that the Ministry of Defense and the Government of Kosovo will respect this commitment as long as it remains in force, showing institutional responsibility.

"Our responsibility and that of the KFOR Commander, given the existence of the 2013 commitment, is to assure each other that any military engagement in the north is carried out in a coordinated manner," the minister concluded in his response.

The letter states that "The Ministry of Defense and the Government of Kosovo will respect the commitment made through the letter dated April 19, 2013 by former Prime Minister Thaçi, who pledged that the Kosovo Security Force would undertake a mission in the northern part of the Republic of Kosovo only with the prior consent of KFOR," says Makedonci's letter, sent to Barduani //Telegrafi/
