The Ministry of Interior authorities are currently working on approving several legal acts and updating the "Safe City" system with accurate data, while additional security cameras are being installed along corridors 8 and 10.

These cameras, according to the MIA authorities, will soon be put into operation for the testing phase, while after the completion of testing and the approval of legal acts, the full implementation of the "Safe City" system will begin on February 1st throughout the country, the MIA announced.

"Currently, the "Safe City" system operates in the territory of the city of Skopje, while its activation is planned to be launched in Kumanovo and Tetovo soon. The devices are already installed in corridors 8 and 10 and it is expected to start detecting traffic violations there at any moment. During 2026, it is planned that the system will start operating throughout the territory of the state. We are currently in a testing period, during which citizens only receive warnings for traffic violations committed. It is planned that from 01.02.2026 the system will be fully operational and the sanctioning of citizens who commit violations recorded by cameras will begin," stated the spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Goce Andreevski.

The Ministry of Interior stated that the testing period of the "Safe City" system so far has shown excellent results. According to the authorities, citizens have improved their behavior and driving style on the country's roads day by day, showing themselves to be more responsible and respecting traffic rules.

During the implementation of this system, it is expected that there will be a small speed tolerance, but this tolerance will only apply to minimal exceedances and will not exclude criminal or administrative liability for violations that may cause traffic danger. Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs estimate that through this system, the safety of citizens in traffic will increase and the number of serious traffic accidents with fatal consequences will be significantly reduced.
