The Ministry of Interior, in response to a question about whether the "Safe City" system is being tested and when it will be officially operational, said that the registration of traffic violations through this system will begin operating from February 1, and not from January 1, as initially announced.
"A safe city will begin operating from February 1, 2026 in the territory of Skopje, Tetovo and Kumanovo, as well as along corridors 8 and 10," the Ministry of Interior said.

After the trial period and warnings arriving in SMS messages, the "Safe City" system, began, the authorities considered postponing the start date when, instead of warnings, fines for speeding and running red lights will begin to be sent.

This signals that the Ministry of Interior needs more time to test and calibrate the system, whose team tested the system and discovered some inconsistencies.

In addition to the delay, representatives of the Ministry of Interior announced in recent days that they are also considering some tolerance regarding speed, that is, not penalizing drivers who drive 52 or 53 kilometers per hour in an urban area.
