The European Parliament debates the terrorist attack in Zubin Potok, the Austrian MEP demands an international investigation

The Committee for Foreign Policy of the European Parliament held a tense debate regarding the terrorist attack on the Ibër-Lepenci water channel in Zubin Potok.

The chairman of the commission, David McAllister, emphasized that the European Parliament is deeply concerned about the situation in the north of Kosovo.

"The European Parliament has strongly condemned these acts, which destabilize Kosovo."

Following the debate, some MEPs expressed solidarity with Kosovo, but asked for more evidence of the involvement of the Serbian authorities.

Michael Gahler, the German MEP, said that some pretty serious claims have been made. "The first question is what evidence has been made available to support these allegations. We have to have facts."

Spanish MEP Nacho Sánchez Amor also expressed support for Kosovo, but stressed the need for a cautious approach.

"You mentioned criminal groups controlled by Serbia, but it is difficult to act without more convincing evidence. We understand your dire situation and support your people, but clearer facts are needed."

Thomas Waitz, MEP from Austria, called for an international investigation into the Zubin Potok case.

"Serbia has said that it wants to be part of the investigation, but the similar situation after Banjska did not bring anything concrete. It is time for the Serbian Government to take responsibility and act against the extremists."

He also called for the five EU countries that have not recognized Kosovo to do so as soon as possible.

"It is time for these countries to recognize Kosovo as independent to send a clear message against destabilization," he emphasized.

After the speeches of the MEPs, the chief diplomat Donika Gërvalla reacted by emphasizing the importance of immediate action.

"The Kosovo police have seized an arsenal of weapons and military equipment that came directly from Serbia. There have been warnings of such attacks and the motive for destabilization is clear."

Gërvalla concluded with a warning about the great effects that neglecting these attacks can have.

"If Serbia continues on the path to the EU without real pressure, these actions will not stop only in Kosovo, but will also spread in the region. I ask for your support to stop this threat."/Telegrafi/
