Luis Suarez named the two strongest opponents he has faced during his career

Luis Suarez has named the two toughest opponents he has faced in his career. The Uruguayan has been one of the most lethal strikers of the 21st century and whether it was Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona or Inter Miami, he has never had goals difficult to come by.

Suarez is a controversial figure, but there's no denying how impressive he has been in front of goal throughout his career. He's dominated in Holland, England, Spain and more. As a result, there haven't been many defenders over the years who have been able to cause him any problems or keep him quiet. More often than not, the now 38-year-old has gotten the best of anyone he's faced. However, it hasn't always been that way.

Looking back on his career, he named two players as his toughest opponents ever and they were former Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos and former Chelsea defender Thiago Silva.

The first player Suarez named as one of his toughest opponents ever was Ramos. The two clashed several times during their time at Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively. The Uruguayan moved to Camp Nou in 2014 and spent six years with the Catalan giants. Alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar, he made waves in La Liga and was involved in some fierce battles with Los Blancos. During that time, Ramos left a lasting impression on him. Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Suarez revealed that the defender was one of the toughest he had faced.

"Sergio Ramos is the most difficult opponent I have faced. He is very strong, has a lot of experience and is a very competitive player. That is why I value so much the goal I scored against Madrid in the match at Camp Nou," declared the Uruguayan.

Ramos has had a glorious career. Having first burst onto the scene with Sevilla, he moved to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2005 and during his 16 years with Madrid, he became one of the best centre-backs ever.

The second player Suarez named as one of his toughest opponents ever was Thiago Silva. The two players have never played football in the same domestic league at the same time, but they have competed on several occasions in Europe and abroad. That was enough to impress the former Liverpool man. Speaking to Metro, Suarez was effusive in his praise for the Brazilian.

"A defender who has caused me trouble and who I have faced several times was Thiago Silva. He is an admirable defender who I have always liked," Suarez added.

Silva has excelled for the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea over the years. These days, he's plying his trade in his native Brazil for Fluminense and is showing no signs of calling it quits, despite being 40. /Telegraph/
