Death toll from Los Angeles wildfires rises

The death toll from the Los Angeles wildfires has risen to 28, officials announced.

As of Tuesday, the fires have burned 40,687 hectares of land, destroyed more than 15 buildings and more than 100 people are under evacuation orders.

The Eaton County fire, which burned more than 14 acres in the city of Altadena, killed at least 17 people, while the Palisades County fire, which burned more than 23 acres, killed 11 people.


Firefighters are gradually bringing the fire under control, but the fires are still active.

Preliminary estimates of damage from the fires are estimated at tens of billions of dollars.

Tech giants Google and YouTube have announced donations of $15 million for relief and recovery efforts following the fires.

Disney also pledged $15 million in aid, in addition to opening its clothing warehouse to employees and their families who lost their homes to the fires.

Hollywood celebrities are also contributing to the recovery efforts. Actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Eva Longoria and Jamie Lee Curtis announced donations of $1 million each. Singer Beyonce's BeyGood Foundation has donated $2.5 million. /Telegraph/
