Liverpool star faces serious punishment for actions at title celebration

The Football Association (FA) has spoken to Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo about the message on the shirt he wore during the Reds' Premier League title celebrations on Sunday.

After defeating Tottenham 5-1 on Sunday, Liverpool won the 20th Premier League title in their history and the second time since the Premier League was played in its current format.

A fiery celebration ensued at Anfield, with players taking the opportunity to celebrate with their teammates, families and to display messages ranging from their country's flags to religious ones. It was this message from Cody Gakpo that led to a warning from league leaders.

The Football Association (FA) has written to Gakpo for holding a message that reads: "I belong to Jesus."

The letter stated that "The Football Association prohibits religious slogans on clothing, football boots and other equipment."

Gakpo first raised his shirt after scoring a goal against Tottenham to send a message, and then took it off and posed during the post-match celebrations. /Telegraph/
