"Let us pray," Pope calls for peace in Ukraine and all war-torn regions

Pope Leo XIV has called for the intensification of efforts to end the war in Ukraine and has reiterated his call for prayers for peace in the country and other regions affected by the conflict.
He told believers to pray for peace in regions affected by conflict, highlighting Ukraine, the Middle East and other areas where people are suffering.
The Pope drew attention to the ongoing suffering in Ukraine, noting that "even in these days, Ukraine continues to be hit by merciless attacks, leaving entire populations exposed to the cold of winter."
"I follow with sorrow what is happening, I am close to those who suffer and I pray for them," he said, noting that the prolonged conflict causes "ever more serious consequences for civilians, widens the divide between peoples and further delays a just and lasting peace."
The Pope's words come as Ukrainian and Russian mediators have held talks in Abu Dhabi.
The sides have reportedly agreed to hold a second round of direct US-brokered peace talks next weekend, despite a spate of deadly attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
"Let us pray for peace: in Ukraine, in the Middle East and in every region where, unfortunately, people fight for interests that are not those of their own people. Peace is built through respect for people," the Pope said. /Telegraph/
