According to the annual report on the activities of the Bulgarian Citizenship Commission headed by the Vice President of Bulgaria, Iliana Yotova, over 16 people obtained Bulgarian citizenship last year. This is four thousand more than in 2023.
According to the data, in first place are citizens from Ukraine and Turkey.
As reported by Bulgarian media, over 2.400 people from Ukraine received Bulgarian passports last year. Turkey is in second place. Almost 2.200 people from their southern neighbor received Bulgarian citizenship. Moldova follows with over 1.800 Bulgarian passports (1887).
In fourth place are citizens of Macedonia, with almost 1.700 people who obtained Bulgarian citizenship last year. Next are Albania (1328), Serbia, Russia, Israel and Syria.
Unlike previous years, when the majority of Bulgarian passports were issued to citizens of Macedonia, in 2024 the top two countries in terms of new citizens are Ukraine and Turkey, with 2.436 and 2.163 people, respectively./Telegraph/
