Labeled as a "divisive figure", Albulena Haxhiu responds to PDK and AAK

After repeatedly failing to elect the speaker of the Kosovo Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, a member of parliament from the Vetëvendosje Movement and candidate for this position, spoke in an exclusive interview for the "Përballje" show on Telegrafi.com, stating that the rejection of her candidacy is a consequence of opposition positions.

She explained that according to the Constitution and the Constitutional Court's ruling, only the winning party has the right to propose a candidate for Speaker of the Assembly.

"It is at the discretion of the Vetëvendosje Movement to propose the candidate, not that of other parties," Haxhiu stressed, adding that the rejection of her name is a consequence of opposition positions.

Speaking about criticism that she is a divisive figure, Haxhiu said that these labels come because of her commitments against agreements that, according to her, have harmed the interests of the citizens and the Republic of Kosovo.

She says that she has been active in politics since 2010 and that her engagement in the Parliament and as Minister of Justice has been in the function of protecting state interests.

"We have opposed Zajednica, the demarcation with Montenegro, the amnesty law and the Special Court, always based on the interest of the citizens and the Republic," she emphasized.

Haxhiu thanked the 56 MPs who have supported him so far and called for the engagement of all political parties so that the Assembly can be constituted and the transition to the other phases of the election of new institutions can be enabled.

"What I want to add to these proposals in this case, PDK or AAK, because AAK has mentioned specific names. You have to understand, AAK has the right to make proposals only when the first party emerges. That is, only when the first party emerges, they have the right to make the proposal with the specific name of the candidate for Speaker of the Assembly," she added.

She also warned of another possible problem even after the election of the Speaker of the Assembly, saying that without political will, there could be difficulties in electing the deputy speakers, which would again block the full constitution of the Assembly.

"Let's enable us to get to that situation where the Government is voted on. Why are we blocking the Assembly? Let's continue further and if we don't have the numbers for the Government, then let's face it at that stage," Haxhiu added.Telegraph/
