LDK criticizes LVV for the process of electing the President: There is no serious effort for consensus

The Democratic League of Kosovo has reacted regarding the process of electing the President of the Republic of Kosovo, emphasizing that this process must be carried out with full seriousness, institutional responsibility and in the spirit of consensus required by the Constitution.
In a public statement, LDK announced that the meetings so far between political entities have been consultative and aimed at finding a consensual candidate for this important state position.
According to this party, consensus cannot be treated as a political competition and is not built in a process where one party proposes names, while the others are only invited to support them. "Consensus implies a joint process of discussion and agreement on a figure who represents the institutional unity of the country and enjoys broad parliamentary trust," the reaction states.
The LDK believes that the Vetëvendosje Movement's approach does not reflect serious efforts to build consensus, but treats the process as a political competition. According to it, such an approach does not serve the spirit of the Constitution nor the need for institutional stability.
Furthermore, this party expresses the position that the way the process has been developed by the VV does not create the conditions for the election of the President and does not demonstrate genuine will to reach a broad political agreement.
Finally, LDK has expressed regret that, according to it, due to this political approach, the country risks exceeding constitutional deadlines and heading towards new elections, instead of ensuring the institutional stability that, as it emphasizes, citizens expect and deserve.
