Kusari-Lila: The non-participation in the vote of the assembly speaker constitutes a violation

The Alternative MP on the Vetëvendosje Movement list, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, has reacted after the developments in yesterday's constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly, where the election of the Speaker of the Assembly failed twice.

Referring to the Constitutional Court Judgment in Case No. KO119/14, Kusari-Lila emphasized that MPs cannot be exempted from the obligation to participate in the vote during the constitution of the Assembly.

"The Constitutional Court's judgment in Case No. KO119/14, point 128 states that 'In the constitution of the Assembly, all deputies must be present and vote as they wish, openly or secretly, to vote "for", "against" or to abstain, and cannot be exempted from doing so'", declared Kusari-Lila.

According to her, not voting constitutes a violation of this judgment and should not be repeated in future hearings.

"Not voting according to this verdict is considered a violation. This action cannot be repeated tomorrow during the continuation of the constitutive session of the Assembly," said Kusari-Lila.

The Vetëvendosje Movement has failed to elect MP Albulena Haxhiu to the post of Speaker of the Parliament, as she received only 57 votes in both rounds of voting.

Meanwhile, 20 MPs voted against and three abstained.
