Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has remembered the historic president Ibrahim Rugova on the 19th anniversary of his death.
Kurti, through a post on Facebook, wrote that the figure of Rugova remained in his memory as a wise, peaceful man and loyal to the path of dialogue in politics.
He said that he built this image of Rugova at the beginning of his political engagement in 1997, where he had the opportunity to meet him twice.
"Today marks 19 years since January 21, 2006, when Dr. Ibrahim Rugova died at the age of 61, leaving behind the infrastructure of a great political, institutional and scholarly tradition.
"As the first chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo party since its founding in 1989 and then as the First President of Kosovo from 1992 onwards, Ibrahim Rugova played a key role in the internationalization of the Kosovo issue in the early 90s. His rhetorical consistency with demands for freedom, independence and democracy for Kosovo was heard as an authentic and credible message in all chancelleries of European states and in the United States of America," Kurti wrote.
Kurti has stated that in Kosovo's modern history, a decade and a half (1989-2006) is closely linked to the name of President Rugova, a period that, according to Kurti, begins with the peaceful resistance of the 90s and ends with the period of building Kosovo's institutions that culminated with the declaration of its independence in 2008.
"Dr. Ibrahim Rugova has left Kosovo a great political, institutional, literary and scholarly legacy, which has been collected and studied, but which is still expected to be recognized and studied by political scientists, historians, philosophers and literary critics. In recent months, a special publication has been added to the corpus of publications on President Ibrahim Rugova, including reports by the Italian and German press on President Rugova," Kurti wrote.
The Prime Minister stated that this book can be considered a good introduction to getting to know the political profile of President Rugova.
“Prepared for publication by scholar Bejtullah Destani, this book can be taken as a good introduction to the political profile of President Rugova, seen from the perspective of international media reports, and as a way to remember him on this anniversary of his death.
"As a sign of gratitude and respect for President Ibrahim Rugova, on the 19th anniversary of his death," Kurti concluded. /Telegraph/
