The acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has described as "a great success" the successful completion of the project for the modernization of the B2 production unit at the "Kosova B" Thermal Power Plant.

In a post on social media, Kurti said that this is the most important project of the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) and the largest investment in the "Kosova B" Power Plant since its construction, ensuring long-term stability of electricity supply for the entire country.

"With the successful completion of the B2 modernization works, which began in April, we have increased the production capacity by about 35 megawatts, without changing the basic operating parameters," Kurti declared.

According to him, the efficiency of the system has increased thanks to new technology and turbine modernization, which enables greater production with less internal energy consumption.

Also, coal consumption has decreased significantly - from 1.3 tons to 1.15 tons per MWh, which according to Kurti indicates a significant improvement in the energy conversion process.

“For the same amount of energy produced, pollution is lower, while the lifespan of the unit has been increased by about 20 years. The maintenance cycle of new equipment has been postponed from 6 to 9 years, saving millions of euros and guaranteeing long-term stability,” he added.

The acting Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the workers, management, board of KEK and the Ministry of Economy for this achievement. He also announced that, during the day of the visit to KEK, Kosovo was exporting electricity, as local consumption was being fully covered by domestic production.
