The Specialized Prosecution in The Hague has requested sentences of 45 years in prison for the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army: Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi. Following this request, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, reacted, describing it as unfounded and disconnected from the historical reality of the war in Kosovo.

In a reaction on Facebook, Kurti emphasized that the moral and historical essence of the KLA's liberation war lies in the survival and dignity of the people of Kosovo.

"The KLA was the bearer of a just, protective and defensive war. It took place in circumstances of savage occupation, when the violence of apartheid was turning into state genocide," Kurti wrote.

He added that any attempt to detach individual actions from this historical context risks distorting the truth of that period.

According to him, the Prosecution's request for such high sentences "is not based on any accepted international sentencing standard" and "completely ignores the context of the war in Kosovo."

"We have never had a plan to exterminate any other people or civilians. The prosecution is trying to place this case in a legal vacuum, detaching the actions from the reality of a liberation war," Kurti stressed.

He stated that Kosovo's institutions remain committed to protecting the historical and factual truth about the war, opposing any attempt to distort it.

"The Republic of Kosovo will continue to defend the value and dignity of the struggle for freedom and the fundamental principles of justice," he concluded. /Telegrafi/
