Kurti at regional Financial Intelligence meetings: There is progress in fighting organized crime

The acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, participated today in the regional meetings of the Financial Intelligence Units, organized by the Egmont Group and supported by GIZ in Kosovo.
In his speech to the participants, Kurti expressed the gratitude of Kosovo institutions to the organizers for the initiatives undertaken and the contribution to holding important events that strengthen regional cooperation against illicit financial activities.
"The organization of this event is in full accordance with our government program and goals for European and international integration. Our goal is to strengthen international and domestic cooperation to coordinate the response of all actors in combating money laundering and terrorist financing. Together we are working to increase collective effectiveness in preventing, identifying and combating economic crime," he said.
He emphasized that aligning the objectives and efforts of local institutions with international ones is essential for more accurate identification of systemic threats and vulnerabilities, as well as for strengthening effective mechanisms to address them.
Kurti recalled that international reports continue to demonstrate Kosovo's progress in the field of combating corruption, money laundering and organized crime.
The European Commission's report on Kosovo highlights progress in the fight against money laundering, while Transparency International has assessed progress in combating corruption over the past years. Similarly, the Global Organized Crime Index has ranked Kosovo among the countries with the lowest level of organized crime in the Western Balkans, while the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime in its 2025 edition assesses Kosovo as the country with the lowest crime rate in the region.
"Kosovo has made considerable progress by strengthening the legal and institutional framework, with the aim of meeting European and international standards in combating these phenomena. This approach strengthens cooperation, cohesion and coordination between our institutions. The Financial Intelligence Unit of the Republic of Kosovo has performed well and has achieved satisfactory results in identifying and tracing illicit proceeds. The Government of the Republic of Kosovo remains fully committed to supporting the FIU and other authorities in combating criminal activities", emphasized Kurti.
Regional meetings of FIUs serve as a platform for exchanging experiences, strengthening inter-state cooperation and improving joint mechanisms for preventing financial threats in the region.
