Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, among his promises for the justice sector, included the creation of a new prosecutor's office to investigate organized crime and corruption. However, justice experts say that there should be investments in the prosecutorial system, not the creation of new institutions.

In the Special Prosecution Office of Kosovo, there are four prosecutors working in the department for the investigation of organized crime, and 11 in the department for the investigation of Corruption and Financial Crime.

But, these apparently are not enough, since a new prosecutor's office that would deal solely with the investigation of these cases was promised by Prime Minister Albin Kurti on the day he was re-elected to this position.

"A new specialized prosecutor's office for organized crime and corruption issues and an office for disciplinary investigations will be established," Kurti declared.

According to the former President of the Supreme Court, Fejzullah Hasani, what is more necessary is to strengthen the SPRK, rather than creating a new prosecutor's office.

"It would be more reasonable to make major reforms in the Special Prosecution Office because, hand on heart, it has not shown where I know what results, even though the name is special prosecutor, the very word special prosecutor in terms of professionalization and combating crime in the dimensions that this prosecution has jurisdiction, the results should be tangible," emphasized Fejzullah Hasani - former president of the Supreme Court.

Hasani added that there is a risk that the creation of new institutions will serve for party recruitment.

"I am afraid that a similar or identical structure to the current one will be created and duplicated, and that the aim is not to accommodate party people in this prosecutor's office, but to strictly respect the professional side," Hasani declared.

And the Kosovo Justice Institute says that the creation of a new prosecutor's office should be done outside the KPK.

"Kosovo needs a specialized prosecution that should be done outside the umbrella of the prosecutorial system, but this can only be done with constitutional amendments and not within the current constitutional framework that we have, but as a proposal it remains unspecified as to what it should look like, years ago IKL emphasized that it is necessary to have a specialized prosecution and court for organized crime and corruption", stated Gzim Shala - Researcher at IKL.

The television has also requested a position from the Kosovo Special Prosecution Office and the Prosecutorial Council, but they have not responded.

Currently, in addition to the 7 basic prosecution offices operating in Kosovo, there is also the Special Prosecution Office that has the mandate to investigate criminal offenses of war crimes, organized crime, terrorism, corruption and financial crime. /Tv Dukagjini/
