Krasniqi hands over the mandate: PDK was strengthened
The current leader of the PDK, Memli Krasniqi, at the start of the party's Convention where the new leader is expected to be elected, said that moments like this show that leadership is an extraordinary path when it ends where it began.
He said that PDK delegates gave him their trust in one of the party's most difficult periods.
"When I took over the leadership of the party, PDK was at a crossroads. Hurt by the past, shaken by unexpected events, and under great political pressure. With five municipalities under our governance, with 148 thousand votes in the national elections, with 18 MPs and with a result of 11% in the polls. At that time, some spoke of decline, some of crisis, some even of the beginning of the end for our party. But, together, stone by stone, day after day, we rebuilt PDK," he added.
Krasniqi criticized the current government, saying that in five years, institutions have degraded, the economy has stagnated, and the well-being of citizens has deteriorated.
"Therefore, today, from this podium, I want to make a clear call to everyone who has said at least once in their lives: I am PDK: Come. Unite. Return to your political home. None of us are above our political family. Let us strengthen our ranks and give Kosovo what it deserves. A strong, modern, professional alternative. A governance of competence, not chaos. A leadership of unity, not division. Because Kosovo does not move forward without a united PDK," Krasniqi emphasized.
Stressing that whoever is elected as the new president today will have his full support, he called for unity and solidarity.
"For the new Chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, however, I have a short message for the end: Every leader is only a temporary guardian of a long road. Today, as I am leaving the country, I want you to take with you this ancient thought, which the poets of the north once said about those who carried the baton: "The road does not belong to the leader - the leader belongs to the road". There will be easy days, but also hard days. There will be applause, but also silence and criticism. But, as long as you walk with good intentions, with a pure heart and with sincere work, the road itself will guide you", said Memli Krasniqi.
Memli Krasniqi's resignation from the position of PDK chairman was approved by a majority vote by the delegates of the party's 12th Convention.
The proposal for approval was submitted by MP and member of the presidency, Xhavit Haliti, who requested that the Convention formally vote on Krasniqi's removal from the PDK leadership, following his resignation announced on November 12.
The delegates present voted in favor of the request, making the end of Memli Krasniqi's mandate official, who today also delivered his final speech as president.
The approval of the resignation paves the way for the election of the new leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo.
