After 45 years, the largest dictionary of the Albanian language has been published online. Linguist Anila Kananaj, who is also the coordinator of the project, says that it will help with the correct spelling of the language.

"We expect a change in the level of spelling at all levels. In school, in official documentation, in legislation, in the media. This dictionary will be very helpful, starting from the words android, the word online..."

The dictionary, which has about 125 thousand lexical units, can be used by everyone online.

"You have all the new concepts that the younger generation knows and uses. You have massive population movements, along with the population movement come new words, new concepts. You have words taken from dialects. The word hajgara (joke) is used a lot in Kosovo. We use a different variant, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't introduce it as a word."

But the publication of this dictionary by the Albanian Academy of Sciences has sparked reactions in Kosovo. Academics there say they were left out of the project due to the principles of the discussion.

"The Interacademic Council was supposed to discuss lexical issues. First, the working principles would be defined and dilemmas would be resolved. We, at the Academy of Kosovo, did not see it reasonable to work without those principles and we did not accept to be involved in that way," said Bardh Rugova.

For these reservations, the working group in Albania says it has collaborated with the Institute of Albanology in Pristina.

"We have a working group there in Kosovo, from the Institute of Albanology, that has been a participant since the beginning. Their opinion has never been absent from the dictionary. They have constantly brought us lexical wealth from Kosovo," Kananaj expressed.

For 9 months, the dictionary will be open to receive suggestions from the public, which will be reflected by the working group./Tv Klan
